Ultra-Rare 1995 U.S. Navy Seabee Ball Commemorative Plate – Naples, Italy
This is not your typical souvenir. Offered here is an authentic, hand-painted commemorative plate produced exclusively for the 1995 Seabee Ball, Naples Area, honoring the U.S. Navy Seabees. It features the instantly recognizable Seabee mascot—helmeted, armed, and in flight—painted with striking detail and humor.
On the reverse, the plate is marked:
“Cer. Giovanni Vietri S/M – Italy”
This confirms it was produced in Vietri sul Mare, the historic ceramic capital of Italy. Giovanni Vietri was known for small-batch artisanal runs, and it is highly unlikely many (if any) additional examples survived outside of original attendees’ hands.
Dimensions: approx. 9.5” long × 7” wide (see photos with measuring tape).
Material: Glazed ceramic, hand-decorated, with cobalt rim.
Condition: Excellent vintage condition. No cracks, no major chips, and artwork remains vivid. Very minor surface wear consistent with careful storage. Please review all photos for the most accurate condition.
⸻
Why this plate is exceptional:
• One-off event issue: Created solely for the 1995 Seabee Ball in Naples, a gathering of U.S. Navy construction battalions stationed overseas.
• Italian craftsmanship: Made in Vietri sul Mare, a town world-renowned for ceramics dating back centuries. The Giovanni Vietri mark ties it directly to a respected workshop tradition.
• Crossover appeal: Appeals to militaria collectors, naval historians, Italian ceramic collectors, and Seabee veterans alike.
• Proven rarity: Only a handful of these plates were ever produced, and very few appear on the open market. One documented example surfaced in recent years at auction—most remain in private hands.
⸻
A museum-worthy piece
The Seabees are legendary for their role in U.S. Navy history, and pieces like this illustrate their global presence and camaraderie. This plate bridges American military history with Italian artistry, making it a true conversation piece and display centerpiece.
